Pawn shops and retail outlets will buy your unwanted gift cards and give you cash instead. You will not get the whole gift card value, but it is better than trying to figure out what you can use the card for. The cash also lets you buy the gift you really wanted, which is the whole point to this transaction anyway.
Online Auctions
Online auction sites are another route to cash. Post your unwanted and unused gift card just like you would with anything else you would sell on these sites. Be sure to offer it for a few dollars less and make it free shipping so you can sell the card fast. Someone out there is sure to think that your gift card is the perfect solution to their gift-giving needs and snatch it up.
Equal Trade for a Different Card
Some retailers also offer an "equal trade" program for unwanted gift cards. You take your unused and unwanted gift cards in and the store trades them for gift cards to shop in their stores instead. If one of these participating stores happens to be a favorite of yours, SCORE! You can trade and shop right away to get something really awesome.
Trading Apps
There are also apps where people trade the things they have and do not want for things they do want. These "community swap" apps can be fun, but you do have to be very careful. Because the swaps are not backed by any sort of security guarantee, you could make a swap for something that does not measure up to the picture or for another gift card that is blank. Still, you could make a really good trade, too, and get some stuff for a serious discount in exchange for your unwanted gift card.
